This month, we introduce you to Chantal, one of our first human performance coaches! Chantal is always up for a good chat and likes to offer a listening ear. With her infectious enthusiasm and warm smile, she knows how to put everyone at ease.
‘I am Chantal van Gerven. I live in Eindhoven and have two amazing sons I am very proud of. In my spare time, you can find me with my family or on the tennis court. At Zenya, I have been working as a human performance coach for a year now, 32 hours a week.’
‘I have been coaching for years, mostly entrepreneurs, with a focus on business performance. However, I noticed that I get energy from empowering people. So not just looking at what needs to be improved, but rather at what someone’s talents, drives and motivation are. When I read the vacancy at Zenya, I immediately thought: this feels like a warm glove. So much attention to people: I wanted to be part of that.’
‘Well, a small correction: Olaf was there first! 😉 He started as a team coach for our developers and showed how much impact coaching can have within an organisation. Thanks to him, it was decided to broaden it and so two more coaches joined, including me. So Olaf: thank you!’
‘I am really proud of that! Since the end of 2024, we have an official People Team at Zenya. The idea? Managers focus on business and results, and we, the People Team, on everything to do with job happiness, development and people orientation. There are six of us: three coaches, two HR professionals and one manager. So that means: every colleague at Zenya has their own coach. 🎉’
‘Oh, that’s actually quite a lot, so here it goes: first of all, that there is undivided time and attention for people. To name a few things, we have periodic 1-on-1 meetings with everyone. Then we discuss wishes and needs, opportunities for personal development, we monitore stress levels, offer a listening ear and, of course, challenge, motivate and stimulate.
In addition, the People Team ensures a clear development cycle and a fair and transparent remuneration system. We also pay a lot of attention to vitality, because a healthy work-life balance is high on our list of priorities. Throughout the year, for instance, we organise sporting and leisure activities in cooperation with our activities committee.’
‘By really listening. And by getting things right in the organisation around health, vitality and development. It may seem simple, but it makes a big difference.’
‘Usually my day consists of one-to-one conversations, process optimisation and working out initiatives. In between, I often walk around the building to catch up with colleagues. Especially if I know something is going on. I also regularly join team meetings to observe the atmosphere and dynamics. I take these insights into conversations or team sessions aimed at team development.’
‘I get joy from the culture here – it feels very warm and open. Furthermore, growth and job happiness are important themes for me. And when I see a colleague growing from conversation to conversation and personal goals being achieved… well, I think: this is why I do it.
Sometimes it’s also in little things: a card or gift for someone who is struggling, or a compliment at the right time. It is so valuable to really be there for someone.’
‘At Zenya, all colleagues have now been in touch with a coach. By the way, that doesn’t mean that everyone needs a growth plan and that’s totally okay. In that case, we schedule some shorter periodic meetings. In our experience, they also like being heard and seen in this way. Sometimes a listening ear is enough 😊.’
