A day in the life of… Karin

Those who are familiar with Karin know that she is always ready for a friendly chat and that no two days are the same for her. At Zenya, she is therefore an indispensable lynchpin in the company, both behind the reception and in her role at Revenue Support. The open, informal atmosphere within Zenya suits her. ‘I started here as a receptionist, but soon got the chance to develop myself further. That variety and constant switching make my job so much fun. I wouldn’t want it any other way!’

Hi Karin! Tell us a bit about yourself. 😊

‘Hi, I’m Karin Joosten and live with my husband Stephan and our dog Guus in Veldhoven. In my spare time, I like to take a long walk with Guus, invite friends over to spoil them with good food and drinks or dive into town for an afternoon of shopping. But honestly? I can also intensely enjoy an evening on the couch with a good series.’

How long have you been working at Zenya? And how did that come about?

‘Almost two years ago, I got a call from Anita, my former opposite neighbour. She worked at Zenya but had plans to do something else. ‘I see in you the perfect successor,’ she said. Well, of course I wanted to hear that! By the way, my father also worked here until his retirement, so Zenya was not unknown territory for me. After the first introductory meeting, I knew immediately: this is where I belong! I am still grateful to Anita for approaching me, because I am completely at home here.’

Why is working at Zenya so special?

‘The atmosphere! Zenya immediately feels like coming home. Everyone is approachable, committed and there is a lot of laughter. I started here as a receptionist for 3.5 days a week and also worked at my previous employer. But I soon got the chance to develop myself further at Zenya. I now support the Revenue Support team in addition to my reception work. A great combination where no day is the same.’

What does your working day look like?

Many people think receptionists only answer the phone and receive guests, but that is only a small part of the job. In fact, we are kind of the secretaries of the whole company! From scheduling appointments and booking meeting rooms to sending business gifts and administrative support – everything comes along. I love the dynamic, especially on those busy, chaotic days when everyone needs something from you at the same time. That energy, that constant switching … wonderful!’

What is your very best memory of Zenya (so far)?

‘Five weeks before I officially started, a weekend in Berlin was planned for Infoland’s 25th anniversary. And even though I hadn’t worked a minute, I was immediately invited! So there I was, standing in a car park at 5am, ready to leave for Berlin with my future colleagues. Pretty exciting, but also incredibly fun! In my opinion, there is no better way to get to know the team.’
