Marjolein van der Wijst kicks off this new column. Marjolein started about two years ago as a Junior Consultant and has since progressed to the Product Specialist position. ‘It’s cool to see so many colleagues passionately working together on a beautiful product.”
‘I am Marjolein, am married and have three young children. I’m a Veldhoven resident these days, so I’m comfortable cycling to work. That’s what I love: being outside! Running is one of my hobbies. In addition, I’m renovating a house with my husband, which gives me a lot of energy.’
‘Previously, I worked in the healthcare sector for 17 years, including as Senior Quality Nurse at Catharina Hospital and at Vitalis. So back then, I was already working on quality related matters in addition to performing nursing care. Think about tackling processes, implementing improvements and learning new things. I was ready for a new challenge; I noticed that I was at my limit at my previous job. So I started a coaching process in which I looked for my qualities and interests. What made me really happy? What did I still want to learn? This path consisted of individual and group coaching.’
‘Through others! I’m well acquainted with Kim Luiijf, the receptionist at Zenya. She lives in my neighbourhood and our children play together regularly. She posted a working at Zenya video on LinkedIn. So I thought, ‘Wow, that’s exactly the kind of company I’m looking for!’ Through Kim’s story and that of her colleagues, I got a good impression of the organisation and the atmosphere. Kim was enthusiastic when I told her, and invited me to come to the office for a cup of coffee.
After that conversation and a tour, I was still excited. And i turned out… I saw a Zenya banner at reception and found out that Zenya makes the software I had been working with for seventeen years! Then I was completely sold, because I knew the user side of Zenya like the back of my hand. For instance, in my previous job, I helped people prepare reports and secure quality standards in Zenya. So it was fate…’

‘In September 2022, I started as a Junior Consultant at the Service Desk. Junior because both the consultancy profession and the back end (the administrator side) of Zenya were new to me. There was still a lot to learn. When I started, my intention was to progress to the Consultant position, but I soon found out that a job on the Service Desk actually suits me much better. It also suits my current stage of life better. After all, as a Consultant, you are often on the road, and with young children I find it more pleasant to plan my time flexibly and to be closer to home. That is why I now work as a Product Specialist. Here I can use my knowledge on the user side and interact with many different colleagues and customers.’
‘The variety in my job is just what makes my weeks unique, but weekly tasks include:
I love diving into a challenge and collaborating with clients. How has a particular customer set up their software now? Is that really the most convenient way? In my role, I also have a lot of internal contact with different colleagues and departments, such as marketing and technical solutions. So no two days are ever the same!
Besides my duties as Product Specialist, I have also been given the honour of setting up the Zenya Academy, an internal training programme for Zenya’s people. I plan new training courses and write training courses for the Academy myself.’
That I get the space and confidence to discover what I like and what I want to learn and develop. Many companies say they are flexible, but they are not. Zenya is. In my job in healthcare, I often had to bend over backwards to be everywhere at once, with my family and at work. At Zenya, I can arrange my work days flexibly. Precisely because I get that confidence, I also tend to put more effort into the company and go the extra mile when necessary.
And what else? The Brabant conviviality, of course! The atmosphere clearly expressed on the website is absolutely right. A good example: the Zenya Innovation Day recently took place at our office, where colleagues worked for 24 hours on new ideas to improve our software. There was pizza in the evening and a delicious breakfast in the morning. I think it’s cool to see colleagues passionately working together on a great product.”
‘Zenya has an eye for what you can do as a person and what suits you. For example, when an interesting project comes up in our department, my team leader looks at who would be the best fit for this project. Zenya not only thinks about what is good for the company, but also for you as a person.’
